Ermita was built to create a spiritual space for contemplation and meditation. The project is located in the rural area of Tepeji del Río, Hidalgo in Mexico. One of the main objectives of the project was to generate two spaces from the simple alteration of the ground in order to achieve greater integration between the spaces and their natural surroundings. The first circular space is defined by a stone border and contained within dense vegetation, creating a public space that functions as a stage where rituals can be practiced. The second space is made up of a stone platform where the altar and a bench are located, it elevates itself from the ground to visually integrate the stream that passes by, it also creates a more intimate space for individual contemplation and meditation. The two spaces are formally linked by a stone staircase which creates visual tension between the altar located on the platform and the circular space where different celebrations take place throughout the year. Both spaces lie under a vault made up by branches of the ancient trees that surround it.
